GAMB19 - GeoArchaeological Meeting, Brugge 2019
One year after the first announcement and few weeks after the meeting it is time write the closing words.
The international meeting Soils as records of Past and Present: the geoarchaeological approach
Focus on: is there time for fieldwork today ? was held on the 6th and 7th of November 2019, in Bruges (Belgium) and we are proud to acknowledge that it was a nice success.
The purpose of the meeting was to bring together scientists working in Pedology or other fields of Earth Sciences and Archaeology in order to share knowledge and research strategies concerning the topic of "Soils as records of Past and Present". During this meeting, several relevant questions concerning the current state of the research, valorisation of soil data gathered in the past, archaeological issues, potentials of interdisciplinary work, significance of fieldwork, and future challenges were addressed by speakers and participants. Today, when environmental questions are more than actual, the original research strategies presented, discussed and published these days aim to contribute to a free and open access intergenerational transmission of scientific knowledge.
The excursion, the scientific meeting, the book, and the abstract book edited at the occasion of the meeting are the results of
a participative project that started in December 2018. The achievement of all the above mentioned objectives in less than one year was only possible thanks to the strong motivation and dedication of not only the organisers, but also of all the contributors and reviewers. We are most grateful to all those who contributed in any way and we will cherish the wonderful experience and beautiful memories of this successful adventure.
